Your Week in Sorrento

Day One (Sunday) -
Transfer Naples/Sorrento.

When you arrive in Sorrento we will bring you to your accommodation. At your leisure, you will be able to discover the little town of Sorrento, an experience rich in itself. You will enjoy a traditional Neapolitan dinner in the veranda where you will experience the true Italian family culture first hand.

Day Two (Monday) -
Your first Italian class, Cookery class and Positano After breakfast, you will have an Italian Language Class, where you will meet your Italian teachers and your classmates. The teacher uses a practical and stimulating teaching method based on the modern techniques aimed at encouraging the development of communicative skills in students. Grammar and syntax will be dealt with and explained whenever necessary so that they can be learned more easily.

Free time for lunch and then you will begin your first cooking class to prepare fresh pasta and a traditional fish dish, depending on what the sea has offered that day.

Your guide will accompany you to the small marine town of "Positano" to experience the unique view of the Amalfi coast.

Day Three (Tuesday) -
Your second Italian class and Cookery class after breakfast, you will have your second language class.

Dinner with your hosts at their home this evening.

Day Four (Wednesday) -
Your third Italian class, Excursion to Pompeii and Cookery class After breakfast and your Italian class you will travel on the local train to reach Pompeii, less than half an hour away, to visit the excavations of the Roman town buried by a volcanic eruption in 79 AD.

This is your last cookery class. Examples include the classic "aubergine and courgette" Parmesan cheese, bittersweet red and yellow peppers, and spicy green peppers with cherry tomatoes. You will learn how to prepare seafood and fresh fish in a particular way, such as how to marinate fresh Mediterranean anchovies, salmon and swordfish.

Dinner with your hosts at their home this evening.

Day Five (Thursday) -
Your fourth Italian class, Excursion to local attractions After breakfast and your Italian class you will go with your language and cookery classmates for a tour of the surrounding attractions, like the village of Sant'Agata, where you can admire the two bays (the Bays of Naples and of Salerno with views of Capri, Ischia, Li Galli). From the hills you will reach the quaint little village of Massalubrense, where you can enjoy coffee or tea in front of a breathtaking sunset.

CLIENT REMARKS

"I really enjoyed this trip. Though I was traveling by myself, I never felt lonely as I was always occupied by activities pre-arranged by Active Gourmet Holidays: Italian lessons in the morning, cooking classes in the afternoon and sometimes, excursions to beautiful places in between. Best of all, I'd been able to meet with people all over thee world, especially during the dinner time when everybody enjoyed the delicious family-style meal together around the long table. I'm glad that I had taken this trip. Thanks to Active Gourmet Holidays." - Rita T., Hong Kong, China

"Thanks for planning a great trip. Great cooking time, great food (awesome desserts) and great conversations with the guests from around the world". - Coretta T., Irving, Texas

"Dear Jo-Ann - The holiday in Sorrento was outstanding! All we could have wished for and more ...! All the crew were welcoming without being intrusive and made us feel like part of their family. The communal meals out on the patio were a highlight both for the quality of the fare and for the varied company of the other guests from all corners of the globe. It became apparent that the programme as supplied to us at the beginning of the week was quite fluid and evolved somewhat over time in the nicest possible Italian way! Our excursions by car (and, unexpectedly, by boat) around the peninsula with Salvatore and by car to Pompei with Odilia were all quite memorable so, altogether, we loved it!" - Phil O., Tasmania, Australia

"Dear Jo-Ann - My experience was perfect! My hosts were absolutely wonderful and they provided everything I needed. The whole family made my stay absolutely magical. The accommodation was very homey. Active Gourmet Holidays made this trip wonderful because I didn't have to plan any excursions. Everything was taken care of. I have recommended Active Gourmet Holidays to my mother and people at work who might want a similar excursion. This trip was the perfect getaway with enough activities to cover the region. The language lessons were fantastic and I had the opportunity to meet with people from all over the world. Even though we couldn't speak in our first languages we managed to find another language to communicate in. The cooking instruction with Chef Longo was incredible. Learning to make pasta and cannolis was a personal goal. What a wonderful adventure! Thank you Active Gourmet Holidays". - Christy M., Merrimack, New Hampshire

"Dear Jo-Ann - I had a wonderful time and the hosts make you feel like home, but better! The company was great, the food was delicious, and the cooking classes and the Italian lessons a blast. It was great to have the opportunity to share with an Italian family and their guests. It’s a different way of life, a way we should imitate, to live everyday as it was the last, and enjoy every minute of it. I recommend this trip strongly, I would do it again if I have the opportunity." - Sandra T., San Juan, Puerto Rico
