(Options: Day Cooking Classes) Umbria, Italy - 3 nights Available year round
Learn to cook with an Italian family who will show you the secrets of Umbrian cuisine. Cristina, your hostess, has been conducting cooking courses since 1999 at a nearby villa but has restored her eighteenth century country house and is now inviting guests to her home for day cooking classes or residential cooking programs.
You will feel right at home at this lovely piece of heaven in Umbria located 20km from Perugia. Cristina's cooking courses, which take place in Cristina's large and comfortable kitchen, begin at 4:00 pm (with a little break for a bruschetta and a wine tasting). For dinner you will feast on what you have learned to prepare, along with some wonderful regional wines.
Usually the menus depend on the fresh vegetables of the season. Cristina can teach you how to make a handmade fresh pasta like fettucine or potatoes gnocchi or anything with pizza dough like calzone, foccacia, pizza, all kinds of antipasti and desserts (tiramisù, chocolate mousse, semifreddo or panna cotta) and all the masterpieces of Italian cooking. These courses can be taken on an individual basis with a minimum of 2 persons at dates of your choice. Participants use their own car to visit the area during their free time and to go to the wine tasting and to the pottery workroom. If clients do not have their own car, transfers can be organised at extra cost. Please inquire. ITINERARY Day One Afternoon arrival around 3pm with your own car to the villa with time to relax with an Italian espresso. Before starting the class the teacher will give you a folder with the menus and the recipes of the dishes you’ll prepare in the two days of cooking classes.
Cooking class begins at 4pm. You will learn how to cook little appetizers, filled vegetables and many kinds of bruschetta with tastings of different types of cheeses and olive oils. Class is followed by dinner with wine in the garden at 8pm. Day Two Breakfast with a cappuccino, local products, fruit, bread and prosciutto. If you want you can walk in the countryside or take a bike and explore the area.

You will taste 5 different red and white wines each paired with a snack, and you will visit the beautiful ancient wine cellar with the owner as your guide. The afternoon is yours with free time to visit to Assisi, Perugia or one of the beautiful medieval towns of the area or, if you prefer, you can return home and relax. Dinner is at 8pm. Day Three Breakfast with a cappuccino, local products, fruit, bread and prosciutto.

CLIENT REMARKS "Dear Jo-Ann - We had the best day and all went perfectly ...thanks to our GPS system, otherwise, we would be in Romania---the wine tasting was delightful, and the ceramic visit was awesome (and costly--but the stuff I bought is gorgeous)--and then a really wonderful evening with Christina, her sister and niece and the sister's husband ... the food we made was delicious and we enjoyed dining with the family. Thank you for all the arrangements, as the day was perfect ... We really loved Umbria--all in all a great trip." "Hello Jo-Ann- We have returned from Italy with many fond memories. We enjoyed our pottery tour/wine tasting/cooking class day. We found Cristina & her sister, Patrizia, easy and fun to work with and the food was delicious. I have sent a picture of us in her kitchen. I have some other pictures of us "cooking", if that is of interest to you. Thank you for all of your correspondence and coordination of the activities. Click here to return to top of page.
