(Options: Additional Cooking Classes, Longer Stays) Florence, Italy - 4 or 5 nights Available year round
Stay in a small bed and breakfast located in the heart of ancient Florence. You will learn to cook genuine Italian cuisine from your host who learned to cook at a young age from "nonna". She will teach you the secrets of traditional recipes and will treat you to the secrets of Florence.
ITINERARY Day One Arrival and check in at the bed and breakfast. Relax and enjoy your new surroundings.
Your host will be happy to recommend some lovely restaurants in the area for dinner - perhaps even those restaurants that are only known to the locals! Day Two Enjoy a delicious breakfast with homemade organic jams, Tuscan breads, salami and cheeses, real Italian coffee and more! You will then have a walking tour around 10:00 am with your host to discover the secret spots and beautiful views of Florence. The walking tour starts and ends in the bed and breakfast. From one of the highest points in Florence with scenic vistas of the city you will come to the Basilica di San Miniato al Monte, a jewel on top of the hill that has been described as the finest Romanesque structure in Tuscany and one of the most beautiful churches in Italy. You will take a leisurely stroll from Piazzale Michelangelo along the enchanting paths to the historic centre and you we will surely stop to have a good coffee or a special glass of wine on the way! Day Three Breakfast at the bed and breakfast . During breakfast a menu will be decided upon according to your tastes and what is available during the season. At around 10:00 a.m. you are off to the Sant'Ambrogio market where we visit the gorgeous food market stalls and purchase our ingredients for the cooking class.
Return to the bed and breakfast around 11:00am for cooking class and enjoy a delicious lunch of what was made during class. Afternoon and evening free. Day Four Breakfast at bed and breakfast
In the afternoon you shall meet at the bed and breakfast, and from there go to a wine bar close by to enjoy a session of wine tasting. All the wine tasting is accompanied by a series of Italian cheeses and other appetizers suggested and presented by a wine expert. The winery or vinaio in Florence is a place where one normally is served standing up against the counter and wine is poured in glasses and accompanied by toasted bread and finocchiona – a salami with fennel seeds very popular in Florence; sometimes there's a little more space in these wine bars and you can sit at a table where you can have a salad with tripe, tuna fish, beans and boiled eggs. These vinai are not so common anymore but some resist the advance of the more sophisticated Enoteca or Wine cellar, fully provided with large selections of wine; but the basic concept remains the same: wine is the protagonist – the accompanying food simply plays a secondary role. Evening free Day Five Departure after breakfast and Buon Viaggio .... unless you choose to stay another day and evening!
Enjoy a second cooking lesson beginning at 11:00 a.m. You will learn to make tagliatelle, ravioli and tortelli mixed with different types of sauces. There is nothing like fresh homemade pasta and you will be able to easily replicate at home. Remember to cook it properly which is “al dente”! Enjoy an evening in Florence at one of the fine restaurants. DAY SIX Another delicoius breakfast and departure.
