Italy: Cooking in Florence
(Options: Additional Cooking Classes, Shorter or Longer Stay)
Florence, Italy - 3 or 5 nights

Stay in a small bed and breakfast located in the heart of historical Florence. You will learn to cook genuine Italian cuisine from your hostess, Mariangela, who learned to cook at a young age from her "nonna". She will teach you the secrets of traditional recipes.

Depending on the season and your tastes, you will decide on a menu and purchase ingredients at the nearby market of Sant'Ambrogio - with fresh vegetables and fruit displayed on the beautiful market stalls.

While cooking and enjoying a nice glass of wine, you will discover Mediterranean aromatic herbs and different types of cheeses as well as learning to cook a good pasta “al dente”.

Enjoy a wine tasting at an authentic vinaio and have lunch in a typical country trattoria.

*With this tour, you have the option of taking one or two cooking lessons (or more, just inquire!). This itinerary outlines the program with five nights' accommodation and one cooking lesson. For two cooking lessons during your stay, the walking tour of Florence is replaced by the cooking lesson. See below "Booking Box" for further information.

From one of the highest points in Florence with scenic vistas of the city you’ll come to the Basilica di San Miniato al Monte, a jewel on top of the hill that has been described as the finest Romanesque structure in Tuscany and one of the most beautiful churches in Italy. You’ll take a leisurely stroll from Piazzale Michelangelo along the enchanting paths to the historic centre and then you’ll visit Santa Croce church where you will find the sepulchral monument of Michelangelo.

Easy excursion - interesting for its landscape and historical and artistic importance.
Duration : 3 hours

Day Four

Breakfast at bed and breakfast

In the afternoon meet at the bed and breakfast and from there go to a wine bar close by to enjoy a session of wine tasting. All the wine tasting is accompanied by a series of Italian cheeses and other appetizers suggested and presented by a wine expert. The winery or vinaio in Florence is a place where one normally is served standing up against the counter and wine is poured in glasses and accompanied by toasted bread and finocchiona – a salami with fennel seeds very popular in Florence; sometimes there's a little more space in these wine bars and you can sit at a table where you can have a salad with tripe, tuna fish, beans and boiled eggs. These vinai are not so common anymore but some resist the advance of the more sophisticated Enoteca or Wine cellars, fully provided with large selections of wine; but the basic concept remains the same:  wine is the protagonist  – the accompanying food simply plays a secondary role.

Evening free

Day Five

Breakfast at bed and breakfast

Morning free

Around 12:30 p.m. we shall meet at the bed and breakfast, and from there set off on foot through the olive trees to reach a country tavern in the nearby hills. It is a simple but well known place, especially by Florentines who normally book their Sunday lunch here for all the family. The specialties on the menu are country dishes; appetizers with mixed patés on toasted bread, soups or home made pasta, grilled or fried meat, and of course the good "house" wines.

Afternoon and evening free

Day Six
