Basque Country, Spain - 3 nights
Available March to December
San Sebastián (known as Donostia, in Basque language) has become a virtual Mecca for the modern gastronaut. World-class gourmands flock to this lovely seaside city, in search of exquisite restaurants, fashionable pintxos bars and renowned culinary societies. The elegant cultural atmosphere on display here is not unfounded: no other city in the world has as many Michelin stars per capita. Our gastronomy extravaganza provides a few truly astonishing culinary experiences and the chance for some hands-on practice at the art of la buena cocina. This three night tour may be easily combined with a visit to the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao or any other tour in Northern Spain.
Arrival in San Sebastián
From pintxo to pintxo, from 9 p.m. to midnight. This evening, your tour begins by exploring the historical city center of San Sebastián, in a fabulous atmosphere which resembles a giant cocktail party. With the help of an expert local guide, you’ll sample some of the tastiest Basque tapas available, served up (in style!) with sparkling txakoli.
Cooking class: creating pintxos
Expert instruction today, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. First you hit the market, to shop for the freshest ingredients. Then it’s on to your cooking class, where you have the luxury of trying your luck first-hand. You’ll learn to create a dozen or so delicacies. As a reward, a tasty meal made of your own culinary artwork, served with wine.
Excursions in / near San Sebastián
Explore the city on a tapas tour of your own design, hit the beach or visit the nearby sculpture garden-museum of Eduardo Chillida. Optional extra: book a gastronomical experience of grand dimensions and immerse yourself in high-tech Basque cuisine. We can book you a table at renowned restaurants such as Mugaritz - a Michelin 2-star restaurant, awarded third place among the world’s 50 best restaurants in 2008.
Your culinary tour comes to an end today after breakfast.

"We wanted you to know how much we enjoyed our trip in Asturias. The routes provided allowed us to see the wonderful natural beauty of the area along with the historic villages, with their many churches and squares. The directions were clear and easy to follow. The degree of difficulty was just right for our level of fitness. Each of our hosts at our accommodations along the way were friendly and the rooms and meals they provided were excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed the trip and we thank you for helping to arrange our vacation in Spain."
