Ancient Spain invites you to enjoy hands-on cooking classes with a popular local chef, food related excursions including a visit to a chocolate factory, cheese producer and winery, along with wonderful accommodations in a small village in Catalonia and a warm and inviting host and guide. This tour will enable you to soak up authentic Catalonia and its gastronomy and beauty.
You will enjoy a week of total immersion into Catalan cuisine and culture. Learn to cook from a popular Catalan chef who will teach you both traditional and specialized dishes using the finest ingredients available.
Stay in a beautiful, remodeled rural house in the heart of a small and cozy town right in the heart of Baix Emporda. Within its walls you will encounter the warmth and well-being of old rural homes. The past and present are perfectly combined to offer you both tranquility and comfort. An incomparable place for anyone whose desire is to disconnect from the city and stress and relax in an peaceful environment.
ITINERARY
Day One - Monday
Late afternoon transfer from Barcelona to your lovely hotel for the week. Time to relax and unwind before dinner.
Enjoy a welcome dinner in a popular restaurant close to the hotel. Your gourmet week begins with a traditional Catalan assortment of specialties.
Time to relax after dinner and enjoy your new surroundings. This will be a very special week of gastronomy, exploration and culture!
Day Two - Tuesday
After another delicious breakfast at the hotel we will visit Besalu, a medieval town with Roman, Jewish and Arabic influence, with an English speaking guide.
We will head on to Girona for lunch and then we will visit the Jewish quarter and the Gothic Cathedral with its museum.The first inhabitants of Girona were the Iberians. Then came the Romans who built a fortification there, which was named Gerunda. After having been occupied by a number of cultures, Girona finally fell under control by the Holy Roman Empire. In the 12 th century, the Jewish community flourished. However, the Catholic kings drove the Jews away from Spain in 1492. Later on, in the 17th to 18th century, it fell under siege by the French, and it was conquered by Napoleon in 1809. The walls of the city were destroyed in the 19th century. Today, the city is a rich heritage site full of historic and cultural beauty.
You will have some free time to visit and shop in this beautiful city. Your dinner tonight will be on your own in the old quarter of Girona.
Day Three - Wednesday
After a complete breakfast at the hotel we will visit the market of Begur. The town and municipal district of Begur make up one of the most wonderful parts of the Costa Brava.
Enjoy a winery visit and wine tasting followed by a delicious lunch in a typical Catalan restaurant.
Back to the hotel for a rest before your first cooking class featuring Catalan specialities. This evening your chef will teach you some of Catalan history through traditional recipies. Dinner of your preparations with a complete menu along with a selection of Spanish wines.
Day Four - Thursday
Today we visit a chocolate factory owned by a fantastic creative chocolate Chef. We will have a taste of a few different bombons and you will learn about the process of how to balance the flavors. Afterwards we head to a local cheese factory. You will see how fresh goat cheese is made, as well as the ever so famous Spanish dry cheese.
Lunch in a typical Catalan restaurant followed by some free time at the hotel for relaxation.
Your second cooking class focuses on the secrets of Catalan cooking. Tonight your chef will enlighten you to the basics of one of the most important Mediterranean cuisines. Dinner of your preparations with a complete menu with some delicious Spanish wines.
Day Five - Friday
Breakfast and transfer to Barcelona with some wonderful memories of Spain.

A minimum of 2 participants is required to run this tour and the tour is limited to a maximum of 6 participants.
